3rd base Softball Enrichment Programme

The 3rd base Softball Enrichment Programme (S.E.P) has been developed to cater for the primary and secondary school sectors. Developing the basic skills from an early age is paramount in any sport and softball is no exception. The skills required at the Tee-ball grade need to be further developed at the transition to softball, which, for many, is a huge step with the introduction of having to hit a ‘pitched’ ball and having to ‘pitch’ to the batting team. Our S.E.P programme has been designed to address these specific requirements and programmes are then adapted to suit the age and ability of the participants as required.
The programme focuses on:
  1. Skill levels - individual and team
  2. Fitness - basic requirements and ideas
  3. Nutrition – basic facts
  4. Team dynamics
  5. Fun
3rd base In Schools Enrichment Programmes are done in school time and involve 1-2 sessions per week of skills and fitness work as well as some simple strategic explanations and solutions with the focus being on developing the player to be the best they can be. Each programme runs for approximately 6-8 weeks dependant on school term length etc
Our coaching incorporates many of the guidelines set out by Softball New Zealand and our coaches are current and past premier division players and or coaches. Both Softball New Zealand and Auckland Softball Association have endorsed and support our programme and vision

Coaching the Coaches:

Our ‘Practical Sessions in Coaching Softball’ programme has been developed in order to cover the basic fundamentals required for the new coach and or coach with limited experience to the game of softball and would prove an invaluable tool for new ‘parent coaches’ within the school and club environment. The course covers both theory and practical sessions of approximately 2 hours per session. The programme will give the participant the basic skill set required to coach these groups and also hopefully the confidence to explore their own ‘spin’ on what they see as being required within their own teams skill set, development levels and team goals. There will be a maximum of 10 persons per session. A course book will be included in the programme which will be a great resource for your ‘coaching career’.

Coaching Clinics

We are also developing Training Clinics that will be held over holiday periods for the player who wants to improve their skills and knowledge of the game in a professional environment. These will be run over a 2-3 day schedule with morning and afternoon sessions. There will also be weekly off season clinics run which are at present being finalised. These will address pitcher/catcher, hitting, and basic fielding and will target different age groups and all skill levels. The 3rd base coaching philosophy emphasizes the need for coaching the simple things well and allowing the athletes to perform the same. This should be the foundation of any good coaching programme and environment.
